As promised here’s some more shots of the snow storm from later in the day. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to go out looking for actual “good” shots, this is just what I took standing in front of the house.
I missed opportunity for some awesome photos, for sure. But this will give you an idea of how much it was snowing. It was coming down like this for pretty much the entire day! Unheard of here…
We broke about every record in the books for snowfall in Dallas. Here’s some teaser pics from early in the storm [4″ snow]. I’ll take some more pictures this afternoon of the final snowfall…
I think this will only work in Solaris 10, but this should give a nice output of how many Physical CPUs, Physical Cores, and Threads [Virtual CPUs] are recognized by Solaris. This will work on Solaris 10 for SPARC or x86.
Note: I’m told that the script gives strange results when run in an LDOM. I don’t have any LDOMs to test with and I’m not really familiar with them. The script was meant to be run in the global zone. It does give proper results in an un-capped local zone.
The output looks like this:
**********
user@host:~$ ~/bin/cpucount.sh
In host.example.com there are:
1 Physical CPUs/Sockets
8 Physical Cores across all CPUs
8 Cores per Physical CPU
64 Total virtual CPUs recognized by the OS
8 Threads per Core (Virtual CPUs per Core)
After a whopping 2 hours sleep [for me], Kiera and I got up and joined her class for a trip to Fossil Rim, in Glen Rose, TX. In spite of being horribly tired, we had a good time. Here are some pictures from the trip.
Kiera’s favorite was the Cheetahs, which unfortunately I don’t have any good pictures of. But I did have a Giraffe eat out of my hand. It scared Kiera and she jumped in the back and hid in the floorboard. :)
You’ll notice several pictures of two animals fighting at the end of the gallery. These guys were going at it for at least 5 minutes. Sadly I didn’t have a video camera, but I think I got some good shots out of them.
Adrena and her band, Trio Loco were rockin’ Grapefest this weekend. Because they were the last band to play on a side-stage on the last day of Grapefest, we expected a pretty low, mellow turnout. Though it doesn’t show up in the pictures, the gig went from pretty much ZERO audience watching the previous act, to a bunch of people watching Trio Loco. And they weren’t just sitting there, but dancing, and whooping and hollering and applauding every song!
So don’t miss them when they play Oktoberfest in Southlake on October 10th!!!
This is an extension of the Top 10 White Trash Heroes of Cinema from Spike.com. It’s a funny list, and the #1 choice I think is quite accurate.
In addition to the reasons listed on the Spike page, the fine folks at the related Fark page have come up with some great clues that point to Luke really being white trash…
He lives on a patch of dirt in the middle of nowhere
He has lots of beat-up vehicles in his front yard
He’s a greasemonkey
He makes out with his sister
He lives with his Aunt and Uncle, ‘cuz his dad killed his mom
Enjoys shooting [womp]rats for entertainment
Thinks joining the armed services is the only way off the family farm
He sells his car to buy a ticket out of town
His best friend is a wanted felon ( who hooks up with his sister – after they busted her out of prison )
He joins a nutty religious group
He almost kills his dad during an argument
His dad kills his boss in a workplace dispute
He was friends with a hermit that lived out in the sticks
Took advice from another hermit that lived in a swamp because he was hiding from the government
Ok, that’s the funniest of the reasons listed on Spike and Fark. If anyone has more good ones, I’ll add them!
Now that I’ve started my Intermediate Algebra class, [hey gimme a break, I haven’t done algebra in 18 years!], I came across this and found it worth posting.
It looks like skynet is almost ready to takeover the world. Scientists in Japan have made some pretty impressive breakthroughs in high-speed robotic hand manipulation!
The video below shows the hand spinning a pen, bouncing a ping-pong ball, tying knots, moving a grain of rice with tweezers, and tossing up a cell phone and catching it!

I am a Unix System Administrator in Dallas, TX. Most of the servers I'm currently responsible for are Solaris and Oracle Linux [RHEL], but most of my experience has been with Debian. I've also been a Windows admin [MCSE NT 4.0 baby!] in the past.
Some may wonder why I'd publicly claim to be a "Lazy SysAdmin." I believe that good System Administrators are inherently lazy. It's not that we aren't willing to work, but we don't want to have to do the same things over and over again. If there is a process that needs to be done more than two or three times, then that process needs to be scripted and/or automated.
This is just my place to post whatever I want. If you like it, great, if not, then go away. :)
